Job Description: The Teaching Assistant (TA) for N211 Policy and Leadership will support the instructor and facilitate the learning experience for graduate students by promoting engagement, providing timely feedback on assignments and supporting students’ understanding of course content. The TA will help ensure that students effectively explore and apply advanced practice nursing’s ethical principles, leadership roles and advocacy in policy and practice.

Responsibilities Include:

1. Supporting Course Instruction

  • Attend all synchronous class sessions (if applicable) and assist with facilitating discussions, answering student questions, and managing technology during virtual or in-person sessions.
  • Help clarify weekly objectives and ensure students are oriented to assignments and course expectations.

2. Grading and Feedback

  • Evaluate weekly Application Exercises (8 total) using the provided grading rubric, ensuring consistency and fairness in feedback.
  • Provide constructive, actionable feedback to students to support their application of theoretical content to clinical practice and policy interests.
  • Review and grade Op-Ed group submissions in alignment with the rubric, focusing on clarity, argument strength, and advocacy relevance.

3. Student Engagement

  • Host regular virtual or in-person office hours to provide additional support for individual students or small groups.
  • Facilitate group dynamics for the Op-Ed project by assisting students with group formation and resolving group-related challenges.
  • Encourage critical thinking and reflection on the role of the advanced practice nurse in ethical decision-making and policy advocacy.

4. Course Administration

  • Monitor deadlines and communicate reminders to students about assignment submissions (Application Exercises, Op-Ed Self-Assessment, and Op-Ed).
  • Manage student inquiries through the course learning platform (CLE) or email, escalating complex issues to the instructor when needed.
  • Assist in tracking student participation and engagement throughout the quarter.

5. Content Support

  • Collaborate with the instructor to prepare and disseminate supplemental resources, such as study guides, FAQs, or additional readings.
  • Provide feedback to the instructor about student challenges with course material and suggest strategies for improving clarity or delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate student or professional with a strong background in nursing, healthcare policy, or ethics.
  • Familiarity with advanced practice nursing roles and policy advocacy.
  • Experience with academic writing, particularly in crafting Op-Eds or similar policy-focused documents.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities.

Time Commitment and Compensation
This position is approximately 8 hours per week, including grading, office hours, and class participation (20% time) with no fee remission. Compensation will be $1,622.22 per month.
