Clinical Professor in the Department of Family Health Care Nursing Lisa Lommel, RN, PhD(c), FNP, MPH, recently returned from a rewarding trip to Taiwan and Hong Kong. Lommel is in her final year of the UC San Francisco (UCSF) School of Nursing doctoral program with Jyu-Lin Chen, RN, PhD, FAAN, serving as her advisor. Her research interest area focuses on health outcomes among Chinese immigrants in the U.S.
A clinical faculty member in the School’s Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program, Lommel has served the School in several capacities including leadership roles with the FNP program as well as the Young Women's faculty practice clinic.
On the invitation from Dr. Chen's Taiwan Fulbright host university, the National Defense University, Lommel presented a lecture entitled “FNP practice in the U.S.: Roles, Competencies and Practice." She remarked that there was “a lot of interest as Taiwan has an NP role, but they do not have the same scope-of-practice as NPs in the U.S.”
Lommel then attended the Sixth Pan Pacific Nursing Conference in Hong Kong and gave an oral presentation on her third dissertation paper, "Disparities in Self-rated Health among Adult Chinese Immigrants in the U.S.: Exploring Inequality Identities."
At the conclusion of the conference, Lommel was awarded best student oral presentation. She met with Dr. Jing Su from Shantou University and Dean Tang from Central South University and looks forward to future teaching collaborations.
