The UCSF School of Nursing hosted the 2020 Bay Area Black Nurses Association Conference on Feb. 22, 2020 in Cole Hall on the Parnassus campus.

The conference, entitled "Advancing Health: Awareness, Advocacy and Action for the Black Community," covered issues across the lifespan, from infant mortality to gerontology. It featured several UCSF presenters including Associate Dean Catherine Waters, faculty members Monica McLemore, PhD, MPH, FAAN and Orlando Harris, PhD, MPH, FNP, and Vice Chancellor Corey Jackson as presenters.

Waters was honored with the Florence Stroud Pioneer Award, which recognizes an individual whose dedication embodies the work of Stroud, a UCSF professor and registered nurse who was an innovator of health care initiatives that addressed disparities and the first African American to serve as Berkeley's health director.
