Stacy Torres, PhD, an assistant professor in Social and Behavioral Sciences, has published a manuscript entitled Aging Alone, Gossiping Together: Older Adults’ Talk as Social Glue in the Journal of Gerontology. The study draws on five years of ethnographic fieldwork among elders in New York City, and delves into how gossip helped them connect and access less conventional social support close to home.
In addition last month, Torres also published an op-ed in the Sacramento Bee entitled Middle Class Shoppers Feel Retail Stores’ Decline Most Keenly At Christmas.
