Periodic Application Review Process
Our BSN Entry to DNP pathway offers a Periodic Application Review Process for prospective students. This allows applicants to submit their applications from September 03, 2024, to January 13, 2025, providing flexibility and timely feedback on application materials.
Application Submission
Applicants can submit their applications throughout the application cycle. We encourage early submission for better chances of securing a spot in the program.
Evaluation for Completeness of Materials
Once your application is submitted, it will be reviewed by the Office of Student Affairs for completeness. You can expect to receive feedback regarding the entirety of your application within a few weeks.
Early Submission Benefits
While the due date for applications for this program is January 13, 2025, completing your application early increases your chances of getting feedback of your application materials and their completeness.

Starting Your Application
The BSN Entry to DNP pathway begins in summer 2025. Start an application for the BSN Entry to DNP pathway and follow these steps:
- For "Academic Level," select “Professional Doctorate.”
- For "Degree Program," select “Nursing Practice, DNP.”
- For the question “When will you be entering UCSF?,” select “Summer 2025”
Admissions Notification
Our Office of Student Affairs reviews submitted applications to ensure they are complete. A submitted application is defined as complete when all the required information, transcripts and letters of recommendation have been received. Our Office of Student Affairs will send applicants a notice confirming their application is complete.
Once the application has been deemed complete, the specialty and DNP faculty will carefully review the application and determine whether to make an admission offer, to make a decision of non-admission, or to place the applicant on a waitlist for admission. You can expect to be notified of this decision no later than eight to 10 weeks of receiving the notice that confirms your application is complete. If you receive an admission offer, you will have two weeks to consider it.
The UCSF School of Nursing does not grant many admission deferrals. We will generally only grant deferments for admitted students who have/will fulfill the conditions outlined on their admission contract AND meet one of the following circumstances:
- A serious medical condition(s) and/or treatment(s)
- Active military orders and/or service
- Religious missions
- Other extenuating circumstance
All deferral requests must be received by May 1. The request must be submitted in writing, clearly state one of the above reasons and be addressed to the Assistant Dean, Office of Student Affairs at [email protected]. Approval of a deferral request is not guaranteed. If a deferral request is not approved, you have the option to reapply for admission in the subsequent application cycle. Please note that admission is not assured.
