STRIDE

Stronger Together: Resources for Inclusion, Diversity and Excellence (STRIDE)'s mission is to prioritize discussions and activities to promote advocacy, mentoring and career advancement while building community and professional development among staff within the School of Nursing. STRIDE is committed to promoting an inclusive environment, emphasizing a climate of diversity, equity and inclusion for all members of the SON.

In fall 2016, a small group of SON staff came together because we wanted to create something that prioritized staff concerns and community building. We held two facilitated open discussions for non-managerial staff and a brief survey to hear from SON staff what they felt were important issues to address and how they wanted to address them. Professional development, inclusion and community building were prominent themes, which became the focus at our first staff retreat in April 2017.

With SON leadership and support, STRIDE's steering committee is planning the next retreat to focus on the most popular topics identified in evaluations from the 2017 retreat and a recent staff survey, including health and wellness, stress management and financial wellness. STRIDE will also co-sponsor events with the staff wellness groups in the Schools of Dentistry and Pharmacy, and with other SON groups such as DIVA, to foster community among faculty and staff.
