Maureen Shannon Joins SON as Associate Dean for Academic Programs

Maureen Shannon has joined the School of Nursing as Associate Dean for Academic Programs, as of Jan. 1, 2019.

A graduate of our PhD program, she is returning to UCSF from the University of Hawaii’s School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene, where she served as a professor, the Frances A. Matsuda endowed chair, Nursing Graduate chair and PhD program director.

She is a certified nurse midwife, and fellow in the American College of Nurse Midwifery and the American Academy of Nursing. She brings to UCSF administrative experiences in the development of a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program, the incorporation of interdisciplinary offerings into programs of study, and leadership of her institution’s reaccreditation effort. Importantly, she has led in a highly diverse and intentionally inclusive environment and brings that experience to our own similarly committed community.

Maureen has been working to familiarize herself with our school, and has visited our campus regularly over the last five months to meet with me and leaders of our degree programs.
