Barbara Koenig, PhD, professor-in-residence in the Institute for Health & Aging, was quoted in the Los Angeles Times article, "Decoding your baby's DNA: It can be done. But should it be?”, reflecting on research conducted as part of the "Sequencing of Newborn Blood Spot DNA to Improve and Expand Newborn Screening” (NBSeq) project. Dr. Koenig is the director of the UCSF Program in Bioethics and a co-principal investigator of the Sequencing of Newborn Blood Spot DNA to Improve and Expand Newborn Screening project, part of the Newborn Sequencing in Genomic Medicine and Public Health (NSIGHT) Consortium, funded by the National Human Genome Research Institute and the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.
