Anne J. Davis, RN, PhD, FAAN, Professor Emerita at UCSF School of Nursing will be honored as a “Living Legend” at the American Academy of Nursing annual conference in Washington, D.C.

Washington, DC (June 27, 2012) –
The American Academy of Nursing is proud to honor four nurse leaders as Living Legends for their extraordinary accomplishments and life-time achievements. Designation as a Living Legend represents the Academy’s highest recognition.

The 2012 Living Legends include:

  • Anne J. Davis, PhD, MS, RN, FAAN, Professor Emerita at the University of California San Francisco, is nationally and internationally recognized as a pioneer in nursing ethics.
  • Mi Ja Kim, PhD, RN, FAAN, Professor and Dean Emerita at the University of Illinois at Chicago, is celebrated for sustained contributions to advanced nursing education, practice, and research throughout the world with a special emphasis on minority students in nursing.
  • Nola Pender, PhD, RN, FAAN, Professor Emerita of The University of Michigan and a Distinguished Professor at the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing, Loyola University, is recognized for contributions made in the significance of theory based research integrated into and tested in nursing practice.
  • Muriel Poulin, EdD, RN, FAAN, Professor Emerita at Boston University, is celebrated for pioneering the education and preparation of a generation of leaders in nursing service administration both nationally and internationally.

Since the initiation of the award in 1994, the Academy has honored 82 Living Legends as a way to commemorate distinguished careers that have impacted health care through notable contributions to nursing practice, research, and education. A recognition ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, October 11, 2012, the opening night of the American Academy of Nursing’s 39th Annual Conference and Meeting at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. Each year, the Academy Board of Directors recognizes a small group of Fellows as Living Legends. To be eligible, a Living Legend must have been a Fellow for at least 15 years and have demonstrated extraordinary and sustained contributions to nursing and health care throughout their careers.
