Job Description:
Professor Yoshimi Fukuoka, PhD, RN, FAAN, is conducting a diabetes prevention trial. Approximately 96 million American adults, more than one in three, have prediabetes. Approximately 90% of those with prediabetes do not know they have it. A moderate amount (5-10%) of weight loss achieved by reducing total caloric intake and increasing physical activity can prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes.
This 12-month randomized control trial aims to compare three different types of lifestyle change programs in participants who are obese and at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The latest digital technologies are used to monitor participants' progress remotely. This trial has been funded by the Agency of Healthcare Research and Quality.
Under the supervision of a principal investigator (PI), the individual in this GSR position may:
- assist in creating study materials
- post study flyers
- screen, enroll and retain research participants
- deliver the weight loss and diabetes prevention educational sessions
- conduct physical exams (i.e. weight, height, resting blood pressure, body fat, vascular function and more)
- manage study participants' apps and activity trackers
- enter and clean data into study databases
- other duties as assigned by PI
Work Location: UCSF Parnassus Campus
Time Commitment and Compensation:
This position may be variable effort of between 10-20% (4-8 hours per week). Compensation will be $21.08-$31.52, depending on research experience.
