Biography

Dr. Kate Holbrook is an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of California, San Francisco School of Nursing, where she serves as the Vice Chair of the Department of Community Health Systems. She currently teaches in the BSN-to-DNP program. She has taught community/public health nursing at the pre-licensure and master’s level. With a clinical and academic career rooted in public health, she specializes in disaster preparedness education, population health, program development and evaluation, and mass vaccination. She has worked in public health agencies at the local and state level in clinical, program management and leadership roles for nearly a decade.

Dr. Holbrook’s work is defined by her dedication to public health and health equity both locally and globally. As an independent consultant and educator, she has developed and implemented disaster shelter training for public health nurses across 14 California counties using innovative flipped classroom approaches. Her international experience includes supervising a public health clinic network in rural Honduras, overseeing a field hospital unit in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake, and training rural nursing staff in India. She is an active member of several regional, statewide and national professional organizations, including the Association of Community Health Nursing Educators, California Directors of Public Health Nursing, and Bay Area Nursing Directors.
