Professor Jyu-Lin Chen, PhD, RN, FAAN, has been appointed Chair of the Department of Family Health Care Nursing, beginning Dec. 1, 2019.

Chen, who received her UCSF doctoral degree in nursing, with a focus on pediatrics, has been a professor in Family Health Care Nursing for more than 10 years. During this time, Chen served as chair of the Faculty Council and the PhD Program Council, and vice chair for Academic Personnel in Family Health Care Nursing. Notably, she led the development and the launch in 2018 of the new Doctor of Nursing Practice program, the first in the UC system.

Through her research in healthy lifestyle changes and global solutions to childhood obesity, she has led interdisciplinary research teams and also recruited students and fellows to SON. In addition, she is well-respected among SON students, earning the Mentor of the Year Award in 2016.

Chen has demonstrated experience in strategic planning, financial management, student recruitment and faculty development, and is well positioned to lead Family Health Care Nursing. She will also continue to serve as director of the DNP program through the 2019-2020 academic year.
