Commencement FAQs
Will graduating students and their guests need tickets to attend the ceremony?
Tickets are not required for graduating students. All guests will need to have a ticket - in paper or digital form - to enter Davies Symphony Hall.
By June 7, 5 p.m., graduating students should visit the SON's Eventbrite page to register for guest tickets using their UCSF email address. A link to the Eventbrite page was sent to the UCSF email address of each student participating in commencement.
There is no charge for tickets. If you are bringing an infant to commencement and the infant is in a carrier, stroller or "in arms" when they arrive, they are not required to have a ticket. They will be held by a guardian during the event. The guardian will need to have a ticket to enter the venue.
To help the event run smoothly, please share tickets with your guests prior to the day of commencement. Follow these instructions to access and share guest tickets:
- Eventbrite will send you an email when your tickets are ready. Your tickets are not in the email. To access your tickets, go to Evenbrite.com, select "Log in," enter the email address you used to register for tickets and select "Continue."
- If you used your UCSF email address to register for tickets and either do not remember your password or this is your first time logging in to Eventbrite with your UCSF email address, select "Forgot password?" and follow the prompts to set a new password. Note: If you ordered tickets through Eventbrite with your personal email address in addition to your UCSF email address, you will need to log in to both accounts to access your tickets.
- Once you are logged in to Eventbrite.com, navigate to the "Tickets" section, located at the top, right-hand corner of the webpage.
- You will be directed to a list of events. Select "UCSF School of Nursing Class of 2024 Commencement" from the list.
- Select the orange "Download Tickets" button to download PDFs of your tickets.
- You may choose to either print the PDF tickets and give them to your guests, or you may email the PDFs to your guests. Please remind guests to be prepared to show their tickets — in print or digital form — to venue ushers.
Is there a limit to the number of guests that can attend?
To ensure that all graduating students have equitable access to tickets, we recommend that each graduating student registers for up to 10 guest tickets.
If you need more than 10 guest tickets, please contact [email protected] before registering for additional tickets. We anticipate being able to honor all requests for additional tickets.
If you have fewer than 10 guests, please refrain from registering for tickets for classmates' guests. This will ensure we can fairly distribute unused tickets to students that need them.
How was the venue selected?
Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall, home of the San Francisco Symphony, is renowned for its elegant design and visually appealing interior and exterior. With over 2,743 seats, the hall provides the School of Nursing a beautiful setting for this celebratory event and ample room for unlimited guests. The hall is centrally located in San Francisco and is easily accessed by public transportation and multiple parking lots. The event will be held in the evening to accommodate guests and graduating students that may need to work during the day. The Hayes Valley neighborhood of San Francisco is located just steps away from the venue. It boasts a variety of delicious restaurants where graduating students and their guests can grab a bite to eat before or after the ceremony.
How long is the ceremony?
The commencement ceremony is typically 90 minutes or less. We ask graduating students to arrive at the venue one hour before the ceremony for staging and preparation. Please plan to be at the venue from 6-8:30 p.m.
I received a notice from the UCSF Graduate Division about another commencement ceremony on May 20. Do I need to attend that event, too?
Most School of Nursing graduates attend only the School of Nursing commencement ceremony on June 11. The students that typically participate in the UCSF Graduate Division commencement ceremony are graduates from master's programs outside of the School of Nursing.
Will the commencement ceremony be livestreamed?
Yes. The commencement ceremony will be livestreamed on this webpage.
Who is eligible to participate in this commencement ceremony?
UCSF School of Nursing students who graduated between fall 2023 and summer 2024 are eligible to participate in this commencement ceremony.

Regalia and Other Mementos
If the cost of regalia is challenging for you, the school has a limited number of regalia for master's and doctoral graduates that are available for borrowing. If you are interested in borrowing a set, please contact Sujey Perea ([email protected]). Those who are borrowing regalia from SON may pick up the items from the mezzanine in the School of Nursing building on the Parnassus campus during the following times:
Wednesday, May 22, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
Thursday, May 23, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Thursday, June 6, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
If you signed up for a cultural heritage or gender identity stole when you completed the commencement reply form, you can pick up your stole during the times listed above.
2024 tassels will also be available for pick up during the times listed above. These tassels are for students who are borrowing regalia. Students who order regalia from the Josten's online story will receive a 2024 tassel with their purchase.
You are also welcome to borrow a colleague's regalia from a previous year. Your regalia should include a hood with apricot-colored lining.
First Generation Support Services is also offering a graduation gown loan program to first-gen students. Thanks to a new partnership with the Alumni Association of UCSF, first-gen students can access a limited supply of gowns, caps and tassels. Items are available on a first come, first served basis. Students must still purchase their school-specific hood from Josten's. Reserve regalia on loan at tiny.ucsf.edu/firstgengown.
Graduate students who are members of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International and new 2024 Alpha Eta Chapter inductees may purchase honor cords here.
You may also purchase optional graduation announcements and other mementos in Josten's online store.
