Susan Chapman Receives 2025 Helen Nahm Research Lecture Award
Susan Chapman, PhD, RN, FAAN, was honored with the 44th Helen Nahm Research Lecture Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to nursing science, health policy and research.
Chapman received the prestigious award in the presence of colleagues and friends during a celebration on June 4, 2025, on the Mission Bay campus. During the event, Chapman delivered the lecture "Becoming an Agent for Change in Nursing: A Health Policy Research Journey."

An esteemed professor in Social and Behavioral Sciences, Chapman is an internationally recognized expert on the health care workforce, particularly the allied health workforce. She is known for her research on the advanced practice nursing workforce, including its role in behavioral health.
Chapman's areas of exemplary scholarship include assessment of how emerging occupations advance access to care, health equity, and cultural humility in health care teams and economic value. Her work has significantly impacted our understanding of the long-term care workforce, especially long-term care professionals without post-secondary education. She has served on several Institute of Medicine study committees including the Future Health Care Workforce for Older Americans. Chapman has over 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals, over 85 non-peer reviewed papers, government and foundation reports and policy briefs, and four book chapters. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and member of the Gerontologic Society of America, AcademyHealth and the American Public Health Association.
