Tekoa King Receives American College of Nurse-Midwives’ Highest Honor

Tekoa King, professor at UC San Francisco School of Nursing and UC San Francisco School of Medicine’s Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences, has received the American College of Nurse-Midwives’ (ACNM’s) most prestigious honor – the Hattie Hemschemeyer Award – for her contributions to midwifery and maternal/child health. Outgoing ACNM President Holly Powell Kennedy – formerly of UCSF School of Nursing – presented the award at the organization’s recent annual meeting in Nashville.

A national expert in fetal heart-rate monitoring, King is the author of numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and has advised national organizations, such as the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, on maternal/child health. King is deputy editor of the Journal of Midwifery & Women’s Health and co-editor of Pharmacology for Women’s Health, one of the most influential texts on the subject.
