Transitioning Into Leadership Program

One of the premiere initiatives within the UCSF Leadership Institute, the Transitioning into Leadership Program is a six-month mentored experience for clinicians and frontline health care employees who aspire to serve in a leadership role or who demonstrate strong leadership potential.

This program features some pre-work, a 90-minute mentorship workshop, as well as six monthly two-hour learning sessions. The monthly learning sessions cover:

Session Topic
Session 1 Foundations of Leadership
Session 2 Self-Awareness and Leadership
Session 3 Resilience and Well-Being in Leadership
Session 4 Change, People and Health Care Leadership
Session 5 Diversity in Leadership and Health Care
Session 6 Vision, Innovation and Strategy

Throughout the program, participants will develop the awareness, knowledge and skills necessary to begin leading teams, units or initiatives across health care delivery settings. Expert instructors, who are health care and industry leaders, will lead participants on a journey toward effective leadership within health care. Outcomes for the Transitioning into Leadership Program include:

  • Participants will develop a foundational awareness of their individual strengths as a leader
  • Participants will acquire the knowledge required for vision-setting, change implementation, and advancement of quality and safety outcomes.
  • Participants will increase their own cultural awareness and humility, in addition to assessing and developing a plan to enhance one's resiliency and wellbeing.
