Maureen Mcgrath, RN, MS, PNP

McGrath was recruited back to UCSF in 2012 to start the nation’s first minor in diabetes for advanced practice nurses. She spent 20 years in clinical practice(Emory and UCSF) as a pediatric diabetes specialist. A graduate of the UCSF School of Nursing Advanced Practice Pediatric Nurse program (1995), the first nurse “Dorothy Frank Diabetes Fellow”, and a crucial team member in starting UCSF’s first pediatric diabetes clinic, she returned “home”. She was well positioned to start the nation's first diabetes minor and began teaching the inaugural course on Behavioral Approaches to Diabetes Across the Lifespan in the Winter of 2013. Subsequently, she developed the Advanced Management of Pediatric Diabetes course and the Advanced Management of Adult Diabetes course. In June 2017, 65 students in the NP specialties will have completed all three courses of the diabetes minor.

She has an appointment in the UCSF School of Medicine and the School of Nursing and a Faculty Practice at the UCSF Madison Clinic for Pediatric Diabetes. She is a member of the leadership team at Madison and precepts FNP and PNP students. For the past 30 plus years she has served in various roles in diabetes camps in California and Georgia. She currently is the Medical Director of the Campamento Familiar – a family camp for Spanish speakers- and the summer teen camp. While at teen camp, she precepts graduate nursing students and medical students as well as the incoming UCSF pediatric endocrine fellows,
