We encourage our students to approach health care issues with critical thinking and a spirit of inquiry. Nursing care for the healthy and the ill occurs in a dynamic social and professional environment with changing needs for clinical, research, and theoretical expertise.
As a leader in health care and nursing progress, the UC San Francisco (UCSF) School of Nursing must anticipate and respond to changing issues and trends and must influence policies and practices in health care. We are driven by the idea that when the best research, the best teaching and the best patient care converge, we can deliver breakthroughs that help heal the world.
We prepare students from culturally diverse backgrounds to assume leadership roles in nursing clinical practice, leadership, teaching, health policy, and research. You’ll have the opportunity to work in our state-of-the-art simulation labs, in the best Bay Area teaching hospitals and clinical environments, and alongside a team health care professionals working together to provide the best patient care.
The level of nursing research we do is unparalleled in academia today. All four of our professional schools rank number one in NIH research funding. Students have the ability to work closely with renown faculty to inform the way we care for our patients. We have been among those forging a critical role for nurse researchers, which balances our profession’s unique strengths with opportunities for inter-professional, translational work.
Faculty fill leadership roles at some of the San Francisco Bay Area's most widely respected community clinics, outpatient facilities, and hospitals, including UCSF Health and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals.
Disrupting the Status Quo for Good
UCSF School of Nursing is a collection of dedicated nurse scientists, clinicians, students and staff who share a common drive to make the world a better place by advancing health and the human condition. Care and compassion are as critical as science and discovery in fulfilling our mission to drive change, and make a difference for individual patients and whole populations. We harness the efficiency of multidisciplinary teams to accelerate learning and scientific progress and speed the development of new therapies and cures. We are constantly pushing forward the policies and partnerships that ensure that people in need are getting access to the most cutting-edge care and treatment.
