Academy for Healthcare Leadership

One of the premier initiative within the UCSF Leadership Institute, the Academy for Healthcare Leadership is a six-month program for experienced health care managers, directors, or project or initiative managers who aspire to serve as a senior leader within a health care organi­zation.

The Academy includes some pre-work, six four-hour monthly learning sessions, completion of a leadership project plan, and two coaching sessions.

The monthly learning sessions cover:

Session 1 Leadership in Health Care
Session 2 Career and Succession Planning in Health Care Leadership
Session 3 Financial, Human Resource and Strategic Management in Health Care
Session 4 Human Resource Leadership and Relationship Management in Health Care
Session 5 Resilience and Well-Being in Health Care Leadership
Session 6 Performance Improvement and Innovation in Health Care

Building on a foundational skill set and thorough self-exploration, the Academy will provide particpants with long-lasting skills to not only navigate an ever-changing, complex health care landscape, but to lead and innovate to improve the delivery of health care and patient care.

Outcomes for the Academy for Healthcare Leadership program include:

  • Participants will demonstrate an increased awareness of their leadership abilities, and explore how their leadership impacts their respective unit or organization.
  • Participants will demonstrate an enhanced competence of the technical skills required for effective leadership in health care including financial, human resource, change and project management, as well as succession planning.
  • Participants will obtain the knowledge necessary for enhancing culture and community within their spheres of influence including increasing diversity, addressing inequities, and fostering inclusion, resiliency and wellness.
