Diversity Statement

The UCSF School of Nursing is committed to recruiting and preparing students from diverse backgrounds to be national and international leaders in research, education, clinical practice, administration, policy, and other emerging areas. To achieve these goals, we must maintain a diverse, respectful learning environment where we value the unique perspectives and contributions of all members of the UCSF and broader healthcare communities. As educators of advanced practice nurses, nurse administrators, nurse faculty, public health, and health policy specialists, as well as nurse researchers, we have a responsibility to graduate well-educated, culturally sensitive health professionals who mirror the diverse populations they serve.

Equity Advisors for Faculty Recruitment

In line with our commitment to diversity in the School, the campus in 2015 echoed this focus by funding Equity Advisors for Faculty Recruitment purposes. Consistent with efforts to achieve campus goals related to diversity and inclusion, an Equity Advisor (EA) is a senior faculty member who provides information and advice about practices for achieving excellence, equity and diversity in faculty recruitment at UCSF. The EA serves as an advisor to academic search committees, facilitating education on best practices in the academic search process that include ensuring a diverse search committee, proactive search procedures to enhance the diversity of the search pool, and countering applicant selection bias. With funding, coordination and oversight by the Office of Diversity and Outreach UCSF pilots this program with support for training by the members of Academic Senate EQOP Committee, Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, Vice and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, and School Diversity Officers. The School of Nursing has two EAs:
