Office of Academic Affairs

The Office of Academic Affairs provides leadership to the Dean, Department Chairs, faculty, and the overall school on academic matters involving faculty policies and procedures. The Office is led by the Interim Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Catherine Waters, who reports directly to the Dean.

Major areas of responsibility:

  • Analyzes and provides consultation to faculty and Chairs on appointments, merits, promotion, discipline, compensation, salary equity, sabbatical and leaves, and problem resolution
  • Provides a transparent understanding of the expectations for academic success in each academic series; guides faculty to understand how the UCSF academic criteria translate into their own academic portfolio
  • Communicates potential and actual changes in academic personnel policies and procedures to the Dean, Department Chairs, and faculty; Seeks feedback on potential and actual changes; Recommends courses of action
  • Consults with and receives advisory input from the Health Sciences Compensation Plan Advisory Committee on the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, including Outside Professional Activities and Conflicts of Commitment
  • Represents the School of Nursing on all matters related to Academic Affairs in a campus community of Vice and Associate Deans of Academic Affairs (Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy) and the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs
  • Provides consultation on strategic planning and organizational decision-making with the Dean’s leadership team
  • Provides leadership to and collaboration with the Recruitment and Retention Committee, the Dean’s Council, and the Dean to ensure that UCSF School of Nursing attracts and retains a diverse faculty and provides an inclusive and welcoming climate for all faculty
