The Young Women's Program (YWP, website), established in 1972 by department faculty, is a nurse practitioner-managed practice located at the Women's Community Clinic. Faculty providers include Jerusalem Makonnen, Erica Monasterio, Barbara Hollinger, and director Pilar Bernal de Pheils.
The YWP mission is twofold: to provide excellent, age-appropriate prenatal and gynecologic care to adolescents and young women; and to educate family nurse practitioner students. An attending obstetrician is available for consultation and a nutritionist and social worker are also on staff. Pediatric residents and medical students occasionally rotate through the clinic.
The YWP provides care to approximately 150 patients per year, with approximately 700 patient visits annually. Clients are of African American (54%), Latina (16%), Asian American/API (9%) and Caucasian (8%) ethnicity.
