Student Financial Services

Fall Quarter Aid Disbursement:

Fall financial aid was disbursed by 9/26/2013.  Students must be considered registered (i.e., filed study lists) and have no registration holds before financial aid checks can be released. Furthermore, financial aid cannot be released if any award is left in “pending” status online.  We strongly encourage all students to sign up for direct deposit so that financial aid can be deposited directly into your checking or saving account.  The process takes approximately two weeks.  If you have not signed up yet, please do so at: https://finaid.ucsf.edu/continuing-students/financial-aid-disbursement#When

Deadline to pay Fall Quarter Tuition:

The last day to pay the balance of your fall quarter tuition is 10/2/2013.  Please check your billing statement from the Office of the Registrar via the MyAccess Account for details.

Change in the Federal Direct Loan and Direct Graduate PLUS:

Congress recently passed legislation that impacts the Federal Direct Student Loan and Direct Graduate PLUS.  HR 1911, the Bipartisan Student Loan Certainty Act of 2013, was recently implemented with an effective date of 7/1/2013.  Under the new law, interest rates for newly issued Federal Direct Loan and Graduate PLUS will be adjusted each academic year based on the U.S. Treasury 10-year borrowing rate.  Furthermore, the rate set for each academic year will be fixed over the life of that loan.  Thus, students who borrow a Direct Loan over two years may have different interest rates for each loan.  For 2013-14, the interest rate is 5.41% for the Federal Direct Loan and 6.41% for Graduate PLUS, but only for loans first disbursed on or after 7/1/2013 due to the implementation date of this new law.  The Student Financial Aid Office recently emailed all students who began 2013-14 with Summer Term and whose summer loans were disbursed prior to 7/1/2013, as interest rates for these loans will remain at the higher percentage (6.8% for Federal Direct Loan; 7.9% for Graduate PLUS) unless they take immediate action.  For students whose 2013-14 loans are first disbursed on or after 7/1/2103, no action is required as they will get the two interest rates.
