Office of Student Affairs

ATTENTION ALL SECOND YEAR MASTERS STUDENTS
PAY ATTENTION TO THIS!

JEFF KILMER STRONGLY ADVISES THAT YOU “ADVANCE TO CANDIDACY” BEFORE JANUARY 11, 2013!!

http://graduate.ucsf.edu/system/files/Advance_Candidacy_Form_MS_Nursing.pdf

Is there any possibility that you will finish all coursework by Winter and have only the Comprehensive Exam to complete in Spring?  Read on and save money!

Here are two possible scenarios:

Hypothetical Student A:
You have finished all your coursework and clinical in Winter and are just doing the Comprehensive Exam during Spring Quarter.

Hypothetical Student B:
You are doing your Comp Exam plus finishing up coursework during Spring.

If you resemble more STUDENT A, (i.e., if you think there is any possibility that you will be finished with your course work in Winter and you will only need to do your Comprehensive Exam in Spring), by all means please fill out advancement to candidacy paperwork now (at the latest before January 11).  This will save you a lot of money because you will then be eligible to go on FILING FEE STATUS in Spring Quarter and pay only $150 instead of full fees!!  If you have not “advanced to candidacy” by the first day of Winter Quarter, you cannot request Filing Fee status in Spring.

If you resemble more STUDENT B, and you know that you will need to take classes in Spring at the same time you are doing the Comp Exam (or Thesis), then know that you have until the first week of Spring Quarter to advance to candidacy in order to graduate in June 2013.
