Washington, DC (August 25, 2011) – The American Academy of Nursing is proud to honor five nurse leaders as Living Legends for their extraordinary accomplishments and life-time achievements. Designation as a Living Legend represents the Academy’s highest recognition.

Former Dean, Kathy Dracup, RN, DNSc, FAAN, received a “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the Heart Failure Society of America this morning, September 19, 2011, at their 15th Annual Scientific Meeting in Boston. The award is “In recognition of her life-long significant and sustained commitment to the field of heart failure”.

Dr. Christina Baggott, an assistant professor in the Department of Physiological Nursing, has been awarded a Mentored Research Scholar Award by the American Cancer Society.

This award is designed to support junior faculty members to become independent investigators as either clinician scientists or cancer control researchers.

David Vlahov, RN, PhD, Professor and Dean, was selected as this year's recipient of the Johns Hopkins University's Distinguished Alumnus Award.

The Distinguished Alumnus Award honors alumni who have typified the Johns Hopkins tradition of excellence and brought credit to the university by their personal accomplishment, professional achievement, or humanitarian service.
